Peyton ManningAccording to Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian, it looks like the NFL season will expand from 16 games to 18 games.  This isn’t official yet as both the owners and players association will need to approve this change, but at this juncture, it seems like a formality.  Polian is a member of the NFL’s competition committee and a former league executive, so his words during his weekly radio show carry some weight.  How do you feel about the change?  Leave your comments below!

Fantasy Live

Sundays in the fall… for every red-blooded sports fan, it means being lost from noon to midnight in all things NFL, including pre-game and post-game analysis.  For about 12 whole hours, NFL fans immerse themselves in the game that they love and if this describes you, do you think you have 20 minutes, 1/36 of your NFL time, to have some fun and win some great prizes?  Let’s be honest, your favorite NFL team will only play about three hours and you’ll have some time, so spend it playing Fantasy Live’s Fantasy Live Challenge!

Fantasy Live Challenge is a very abbreviated version of the ever-popular game of fantasy football.  Instead of the tediousness of drafting, the feeling of disappointment because you missed out on a certain player, and the waiting game of knowing if you’ve won or not, Fantasy Live Challenge is a quick game of competitive satisfaction where you select players in games happening in real-time during a designated 20-minute period.

First off, you’ll need to join a competition and then select one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, and one kicker and hope they all score as much as possible in your 20 minutes. You can even create your own challenge and play against friends to see which one of you knows their football and can prove it!  Since there is a possibility of playing multiple games during the day, you can prove your football knowledge over and over again!

Fantasy Live’s Fantasy Live Challenge is addictive and gets your attention whole-heartedly, so drop everything and play!  It will be the best and most intense 20 minutes you’ll spend on a Sunday.

Tom Brady

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots finally agreed on a four-year extension that will pay Brady $72 million with $48.5 million guaranteed.  Considering all that he’s done for the organization, namely leading the team to three Super Bowls, it was only a matter of time before Brady re-upped with the Pats.  It would have been shocking if Brady didn’t get the opportunity with the team he’s been with his whole career since 2000.  Is Randy Moss, playing in his final year of his contract, up next to sign an extension with the Patriots?  It doesn’t seem likely.

Brendan ShanahanThe National Hockey League has been trying out some possible rule changes this week. Dubbed the 2010 NHL Research, Development and Orientation Camp, general managers across the league have helped shape the tests to evaluate the effectiveness of various aspects of NHL hockey. The NHL has acknowledged that players are faster, stronger and more skilled than ever before, so they want to see if any subtle improvements could be made to the game while still maintaining its integrity and not confusing fans.

Ilya KovalchukOn the 22-year anniversary of the Edmonton Oilers trade of Wayne Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings, the NHL has achieved another victory; this time a much different one. Arbitrator Richard Bloch has decided in favor of the NHL in regards to the ludicrous 17-year, $102 million contract offered by the New Jersey Devils to Ilya Kovalchuk. With that decision, 2010’s hottest unrestricted free agent is back on the market, and New Jersey may not win out a second time.

Nolan RyanThe Texas Rangers are having a pretty good season this year. The last time you probably heard somebody say that was in 1999 when the Rangers were swept by the New York Yankees in the American League Divisional Series. Since then, the Rangers plummeted in the ranks of the AL West and have slowly been climbing to get out of it. The latest chapter of Rangers history began yesterday when Nolan Ryan outbid Mark Cuban to become the newest owner of the recovering franchise.

Marge SchottMarge Schott was a woman who made history. She was the first woman to ever buy a Major League Baseball franchise when she purchased controlling interest in the Cincinnati Reds on December 21, 1984. Throughout her 15-year long tenure, she was a public face of the franchise for reasons good and bad. She was great with kids, signed autographs and kept tickets low, but also didn’t put much money back into the team, preferring instead to keep contracts low and deriding players who didn’t earn their keep.

Phil Jackson

Phil Jackson, iconic coach thanks to his record 11 NBA records, is thinking about retirement and leaving the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers.  Jackson who led both the Chicago Bulls and Lakers to three-peats, could win another trifecta should he come back for the 2010-11 NBA season and win an amazing fourth set of title three-peats.  However, Jackson’s health will be the most important factor on whether or not he returns to the sidelines, not the promise of winning another title or even money it seems.  It’s known that Lakers owner, Jerry Buss, wants Jackson to take a significant paycut from Jackson’s $12 million he earned this past season.  However, how do you not pay, arguably, the greatest NBA coach whatever he wants, especially coming off a championship season?  But, that’s if Jackson is deemed healthy enough.  This much is certain, the Lakers players and fans want Jackson back.

Koman Coulibaly

Koman Coulibaly, the infamous and detested World Cup referee that spoiled the United States’ non-victory, may not take the pitch again as a referee according to rumors on how FIFA will deal with the unfortunate situation.  The U.S. was down 2-0 to Slovenia, but came back to tie the match at 2-2.  In the 86th minute, Maurice Edu seemed to score the go-ahead goal, but Coulibaly disallowed it for a reason that is not entirely and aesthetically know since replay shows that there were no infractions by the U.S.  Because of Coulibaly’s call, only getting the tie could keep the U.S. from advancing if they lose their next match against Algeria.  However, the U.S. does control its own destiny, as a win will have them advance into the next round.

Tom Izzo

Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo met with the Cleveland Cavaliers today about their vacant head coaching job.  Izzo, one of the better college basketball coaches in the game today is rumored to be leaning towards taking the job “if offered,” but you have to think, it’s been offered.  Cavs owner Dan Gilbert is a Michigan State alum and has said before he’d want to take Izzo out of his alma mater to coach his team.  Cleveland sports blog, Waiting For Next Year, broke the story of Izzo speaking to his Spartans team and telling them that he would be taking the Cavs job.  Former New Jersey Nets and New Orleans Hornets head coach Byron Scott is also rumored to be up for the Cavs job, but I would consider that a smokescreen.  Time will tell, so keep tabs on the Cavs.
